Behind on your bookkeeping?
It happens to good businesses. Sales picked up, the person who kept the books left, or the shoebox of receipts simply grew. Then a tax deadline approaches, a bank asks for financial statements, or a partner wants to see the numbers, and the books stop months ago.
Our catch-up bookkeeping services close that gap. We record every missing month from your statements, reconcile each account and hand you books that are current and ready for your tax return. We work with businesses in Rochelle Park and across Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Morris counties, and online with clients anywhere in the U.S., including founders in Turkey who own a U.S. LLC.
Signs you need a bookkeeping catch-up
- Your last reconciled month was a quarter or more ago.
- Your bank feed was never connected, or stopped importing.
- You have a business tax return or extension deadline coming and no year-end numbers.
- A lender, landlord or partner asked for a profit and loss statement you cannot produce.
- You opened a U.S. LLC, used the bank account and never kept any books.
What our catch-up bookkeeping includes
Recording the missing months
We enter every deposit, payment, card charge and transfer for the missing period, working from bank and credit card statements rather than memory. Each transaction is categorized, owner draws and contributions are separated from business income and expenses, and anything we cannot identify goes on one short question list for you.
Reconciling every account
Each bank, credit card and loan account is reconciled to its statement month by month. Reconciliation proves the catch-up is complete: no missing deposits, no duplicates and opening balances that tie to the last closed period.
Sales tax, 1099 and payroll records
If you collect New Jersey sales tax, we check that the sales tax recorded in the books agrees with what was filed. If returns were missed, our NJ sales tax filing service can bring them current. We also list the contractors you paid, so year-end 1099 forms can be prepared from accurate totals, and we record payroll from your payroll reports.
Year-end financial statements
The project ends with a profit and loss statement and balance sheet for each period in scope, reviewed with you on a call.
What we need from you
Statements are the backbone of a catch-up: bank, credit card and loan statements for every missing month, plus payroll reports and a note on any large or unusual payments. You share them through a secure link or add us to QuickBooks Online, and we plan the work around any tax deadline you are facing.
If you do not use accounting software yet, we can set it up as part of the project with our QuickBooks setup service, so the rebuilt books live in a properly configured file.
Why catching up matters
Your tax return is only as accurate as the books behind it. Estimating income and expenses at the last minute usually means missed deductions or numbers you cannot support later. The IRS generally expects you to keep the records that support a return for at least three years (see the IRS page How long should I keep records?), and for most small businesses those records are the books. Current books also make tax planning possible during the year, instead of surprises in April.
Catch-up, cleanup or monthly bookkeeping?
- Catch-up bookkeeping records months that were never entered.
- A QuickBooks cleanup fixes months that were entered incorrectly.
- Monthly bookkeeping keeps everything current afterwards, so you never fall behind again.
Most clients move from a catch-up straight into monthly service, and we can apply what we learned about your business from the first month. Many are small businesses in New Jersey that want bookkeeping and tax in one place.
Catch-up work is quoted individually and agreed before it starts. Book a free review and we will tell you exactly what your catch-up involves.
